JESUS CARES ABOUT CHILDREN - SO DO WE

We are an organization dedicated to helping children in poverty in Jesus’ name. Through sponsorships and donations, we empower you to provide care to children in poverty so they are free to learn, grow, play, and dream.
OUR STORY
Discover who we are, what we believe, and how we're making a difference.
It was first a few, then more and more orphans that started to find their way to the local church to get help. God then provoked local Christians to pray for help for the orphans in the area. This all started in 2009. The church leaders decided to do something. Their mission was born out of the dire circumstances faced by a significant number of underprivileged children, particularly girls. Orphaned or born into impoverished families, these children were frequently forced onto perilous paths, such as early marriages or, in the most tragic cases, premature death. These circumstances cast a dark cloud over their childhood, denying them the joy and happiness freely experienced by their more fortunate peers.

In response to this grim reality, the founding group envisioned a plan that went beyond merely providing education. Their initiative was aimed at delivering comprehensive welfare, healthcare, counseling, and guidance to displaced and vulnerable individuals.

In 2017, this cause caught the attention of a humble Christian congregation from Cyprus whose heart God had opened to help. The first connection was made using Facebook. Their initial interaction with the Focus organization evolved into a committed relationship of mutual understanding and trust. Deeply moved by the children's resilience amidst such challenges, they decided to purchase a local building on sale for $10,000. This purchase served as a beacon of hope, offering educational opportunities to the local community and free education and meals to select orphans and needy children.
However, the issue of a lack of clean water posed a severe challenge to the school and community, forcing them to rely on unclean water from a nearby swamp. To combat this, the Cyprus congregation launched a project to pump and filter this water, providing safe and drinkable water to the community. Financed by Sylvia in memory of her late husband, a cousin of a congregation member, the project concluded in January 2018, with personal inspections by congregation members John and Miltos.
In the following years, Sylvia continued her philanthropy, financing the construction of two new classrooms in 2019 and funding the building of a school fence and additional toilets in 2020.
In 2018, people from Finland contributed to the cause, financing the purchase of three acres of land for cultivation to provide food for the children. In later years the Finnish team also participated in funding a new classroom, a dormitory, a teachers' office, and food among other things.

Throughout these transformative years, the Cyprus congregation has remained steadfast in its support. They have continuously offered help in various forms, from providing food and medication to covering teachers' salaries and supporting secondary education or vocational training for the orphans. Their commitment to uplifting the lives of these children embodies the very essence of their Christian faith.
